FLEAS

DON'T JUST SCRATCH THAT ITCH

Fleas have always been a pain in the neck, however they are also a pain in the legs, back and paws for our beloved pets.  Flea season typically peaks during the hottest days of summer but they can actually be a year-round problem as well.  The time to start looking for them—and taking preventative measures to safeguard your pet —is during the spring before the prime flea season.  If you notice your pet scratching more frequently and with greater urgency, you should check them thoroughly for fleas.

Warning Signs

1. Excessive Scratching:

  • Watch you dog or cat to see if they are scratching excessively and/or biting at their skin.
  • Use a comb and thoroughly check your pet's skin for fleas.

2. Flea Dirt:

  • As you check your pet, you may notice dark specks on the skin that do not move.
  • These specks may be “flea dirt,” another term for flea feces.
  • You can use a white tissue or paper towel to pick up a couple specks for identification.
  • If the specks turn reddish-brown when they come into contact with a drop of water, they are flea dirt. The red hue is from the blood that the flea has consumed.

3. Flea Bites:

  • The presence of flea bites is also a sign of a flea infestation.
  • Flea bites will leave areas of your pet's skin red and irritated.
  • Check their belly, hindquarters, neck, and ears. These are typically places that fleas attack.

Eradication Plan

Our Team of Professionals will implement advanced techniques and top-quality pest control products to take care of your fleas.  We have a process to solving your flea issue:

  • Inspection: We perform a thorough inspection of your home and locate any flea activity. This inspection will focus on areas where fleas normally are found, or where you suspect they’re active, such as where your pets sleep and reside most often in your home. Fleas can also be brought in by feral animals living in the attic, basement, crawlspace, or other home areas, so we your will inspect those areas as well.

  • Treatment: After the inspection, we will apply a customized insecticide to your home to kill active adult fleas and prevent existing eggs and larvae from fully maturing. Many adult fleas can also be removed by vacuuming in high-concentration areas. Vacuuming triggers existing flea eggs to hatch, which allows our insecticide to target the newly hatched fleas. This treatment normally takes care of most flea activity.

Every case is unique and we will work with you to develop the best plan to rid your home of the pesky fleas.
